It is said that a writer's life is solitary. We yearn for connections with others, both readers and fellow writers. We write for ourselves but we are writing for others, to be read and in seeking a response. I have been blessed in my writer's life: with wonderful, challenging mentors; by excellent, critical readers who gave me readers' feedback; by the reactions of "regular readers" in their comprehension and appreciation for what I have published.
I have endured days when I wanted to scream, that yet again I had to go back and rewrite (which is the real writing anyway!) until I conveyed what I want and the prose was scintillating. I have been blessed with editors who struggled to make my text the best it can be (for today anyway). I have been fortunate to journey with published authors who helped me navigate a ruthless publishing world and reminded me that it is possible to prevail.
And readers who: questioned my ideas; felt confirmed in their own life experience through what I had written; who have sought my help for their own writing and publishing ideas.
And so I begin this blog - in case their are writers feeling too disconnected and alone. In case there are readers (especially of my books) who want to explore ideas and banter possibilities. Everything is the "stuff" of a writers life, so embrace life!
